Anode casting

Outotec® Anode Casting System is a flexible, modular casting solution. It ensures continuous operation and material flow in the smelter and produces a high return on capital investment. The high-quality cast anodes meet the requirements of modern tankhouse processes. Outotec's tailor-made system is a safe choice, and the world's most popular copper anodes casting technology.

Outotec Anode Casting Systems meet capacity ranges from 20 to 120 tons/hour. The casting wheel layout can be delivered with the exact number of molds that best suits your capacity and production needs. A twin-wheel system is available for larger capacity requirements.

An accurate weighing and casting unit casts molten anode copper into copper molds. After cooling, the take-offs lift the solidified anodes that typically weigh 300–400 kg into the cooling tank to prevent excess oxidation and to ensure thorough washing. The cast anodes are then counted and arranged in bundles of a predetermined size. These material handling functions are fully automatic.

Outotec Anode Casting technology has been installed in over 200 weighing and casting units in smelters around the world. We are committed to continuous development focusing on anode quality and increased automation. Our vast knowledge and experience helps to prevent last-minute plant modifications and production shutdowns. The Anode Casting System can be installed quickly, and once installed, production runs smoothly.

Outotec has long experience in the modernization of existing facilities, in addition to designing and building new anode casting shops. An existing plant is easy to upgrade or expand in order to meet higher production requirements.

A flat-wheel design serves as a platform for easy mold servicing. It allows unobstructed visual monitoring of the casting equipment to ensure safe working conditions. Wheel speed is accurately adjusted to the optimum speed profile, ensuring smooth acceleration and deceleration of the molds. As a result, high-quality anodes are produced with minimal bulge or cup formation.
