Sintering and pelletizing processes
Our sintering technology for iron concentrate is based on travelling grate process. The latest phase in this technology is our EOS® (Emission Optimised Sintering) process, which substantially reduces energy consumption and emissions.
The travelling grate process is also the most common technology for pelletizing of iron ores, suitable for large capacities.
This technology is used in world's largest pelletizing plant in Brazil. For smaller capacities, up to 1 million t/a, Steel belt Sintering is an economical choice.

Direct and smelting reduction of iron ore
As an alternative for traditional blast furnace route, Outotec offers both proven and innovative direct reduction processes for iron ore. We have several decades of experience in supplying Midrex and SL/RN direct reduction plants. In addition we have carried out extensive research work to develop new Circofer® and Circored® processes based on our knowledge in fluidized bed technologies. We are also licensee in HIsmelt® process, new smelting reduction process developed by HIsmelt® Corporation.
