Acquisitions and divestments

Outotec has consolidated its position as the leading technology partner in the mining and metallurgical industry by several major acquisitions, such as Lurgi Metallurgie and KHD Aluminium Technology in Germany, Lurgi Australia, Nordberg Mills in Norway and Boliden Contech in Sweden.

In December 2009, Outotec announced it  had acquired 19.9% of shares in Ausmelt Ltd. In addition, Outotec launched an off-market takeover bid to acquire all shares in Ausmelt.

In October 2009, Outotec announced it will acquire control in Larox Corporation and to make a mandatory public tender offer for all the remaining Larox shares. Outotec aims to increase its business for example by acquiring complementing technologies, increasing significantly the proportion of services in its sales and applying existing technologies in new industries. In order to speed up growth Outotec has agreed with certain main shareholders of Larox on share transactions, in which they sell all their Larox series A and B shares to Outotec. In 2008 Outotec acquired Canada-based Auburn Group, a reputable service provider for the mining and metals industries.  Auburn complements Outotec by 150 service experts and an increased range of offerings and service programs.

In 2007 Outotec acquired the Chena® (Chemistry Navigator) trademark from a Finnish company Liqum with two related patent families on electrochemical measuring and process monitoring as well as exclusive rights of this technology in mining, minerals and metals industry applications.

All these companies and their offerings have been united under a single brand, namely Outotec.
