| The TankCell® -300, with an approximate air feed of 16-31 m³/min at 71 kPa shaft pressure, is the most recent and most powerful addition to the renowned TankCell® family. A total of more than 1000 TankCell® installations worldwide span sizes from 5m³ up to the previous largest, the 200m³ model. The 200m³ model operates at Zinifex’s Century zinc mine and a train of ten 200m³ are to be commissioned shortly at the Cowal Gold project in NSW.
“Designed to meet ever-increasing demand for greater capacity on-site, the powerful 300m³ capacity means the TankCell® -300 can cope with a site’s most demanding throughput, yet still deliver optimum concentrate grade and recovery level” said Mr Peter Bourke, Global Technology Manager – Flotation Process, for Outokumpu Technology.
“As the TankCell® is a customised design, this ensures mechanisms are optimised to match differing feeds, from ultrafines to coarse, and also varying froth characteristics” he added.
Mr Bourke says the TankCell® -300 brings economies of scale and the latest technology to the proven TankCell® design that has demonstrated the efficiency of its technology on a broad diversity of metals around the globe.
“Benefits of a single larger cell include lower capital cost, lower installation cost and a smaller footprint compared with two smaller tanks. The larger design also offers optimised froth stability for low grade ores, as well as ongoing savings from its lower air and power consumption and also lower maintenance costs compared with two smaller cells”.
“Outokumpu TankCell® units are a flexible solution for diverse applications of rougher, scavenger and cleaner flotation. Having the widest range of cell sizes facilitates numerous production rates. Mixing, aeration and froth handling are designed case-by-case to best fit the feed material and individual application involved,” said Mr Bourke.
Features of TankCell® technology include:
- Customised design
- Fast startup under full load
- Easy operation and ability to run without sanding
- Automatic air control
- Optimum bubble size
- Air dispersion independent of mixing
- Optimised power draw
Several of Outokumpu Technology’s world authorities on flotation addressed the Centenary, including Outokumpu Technology’s Global Technology Manager - Flotation, Mr Sami Gronstrand. Other subjects discussed at the Centenary included the new TankCell® -300, depression of gangue minerals using tailor-made CMCs and Outokumpu’s CFD in-house capabilities.
Outokumpu Technology was one of only 20 selected exhibitors allocated space at the symposium, held under the joint auspices of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and the Society of Mining Engineers (SME).
