Forming under vacuum

With Outotec's vacuum technology it is possible to improve anode quality with low investment and operating cost.

We have more than 30 years experience with vacuum technology.

For vibrocompacting under vacuum, the anode mould is provided with a special hood, which is evacuated before and during vibrocompacting. Under optimum conditions 20 mbar absolut pressure is achieved. The vacuum during vibrocompacting is generated by a sturdy liquid ring pump using water from the anode cooling circuit as seal water.

Benefits:

  • Forming under relatively high paste temperatures
  • Increase of apparent block density
  • Tight dimensional tolerances of anodes
  • Capture of pitch fumes during vibrocompacting
  • Reduction of pitch content in the paste
  • No need for intermediate paste cooling after paste mixing
