AISCO FOUNDRY SAND COOLING EQUIPMENT
For over 30 years, Outotec has been designing and manufacturing AISCO cooling drums for the foundry industry. Primarily used in traditional green sand casting plants, these drums are designed to cool and condition the sand while providing efficient shakeout of the casting and sprue. Outotec has supplied more than 40 of these units to foundries in Canada, USA, Mexico and South America.
Ruggedly constructed, these drums provide low maintenance operation in foundries running 1, 2 or 3 shifts per day. Many of these units are still operating 20+ years later. A combination of standard drums can be engineered to suit any customer’s plant.
Outotec Inc. supports the supply of these drums with more than 30 years of engineering experience in sand system design. This provides the customer with assistance from projects as small as retrofitting cooling equipment into existing plant layouts or as large as a complete new sand system.
AISCO rotary units are single or multi-purpose:
Cooling drums
- Provides efficient shakeout.
- Cools sand and castings to a consistent temperature.
- Applications are 25 to 300 TPH throughputs with sand to metal ratios from 4:1 to 12:1.
Sand cooler - blender
- Provides sand cooling and blending.
- Controls uniform temperature and moisture levels.
- Homogeneous sand produces higher casting quality with less scrap.
- Applications are 50 to 500 TPH sand throughputs.
- Abrasion resistant screens aid in removing core butts and tramp metal.
SPECIAL APPLICATIONS
Aisco drums are custom designed for each application
Thimble cleaning
In the aluminum industry, cast iron "thimbles" are stripped from processed rods. The "thimbles" are crushed then tumbled in a drum where they are cleaned of exterior contamination by self abrading, before being remelted and reused in the rodding process.
Mould shake out
Green sand moulds with cast parts are fed into the drum where they are tumbled and separated. At the exit end of the drum, the sand exits through a perforated screen and the cast parts exit across the screen and are fed onto a conveyor for finishing.
As well as shake out, the drum has the capacity to cool the sand and castings by the use of a controlled evaporative cooling system.<
Sand blending
Moulding sand may be cooled and blended in the drum as well as moisture and bond added. The pre-cooling and blending facilitates a faster cycle rate for re-use in the moulding operation.
Copper ore agglomeration
In the SX-EW system of copper refining, the drum is used to mix copper ore and acid while agglomerating the mixture into suitable consistency for spreading on the leach pad.
